New Stellaris story pack to add proper machine empires

“Cast off the shackles of biology”, says the announcement. The second story pack for [Stellaris] [Review][Official Site], the 4X-meets-Grand Strategy game by Paradox Interactive, has no set release date yet, but an announcement page and trailer reveal that the Synthetic Dawn story pack, released later this year, will allow players to begin the game as a Machine Empire.

The story pack is the third DLC and second story pack, following the releases of Leviathans and Utopia. While you can currently ascend to machinehood by progressing down a research path, Synthetic Dawn will allow you to start without ever having a biological past. As usual, it will accompany a large, free patch – 1.8, titled ‘Čapek‘ – which will change the way habitability works, add genemodding templates, give different ethics different narrators, among other changes and additions you can find at their forums’ dev diaries.

Their announcement page says the following will be the main features,

You, Robot: Play Stellaris as a customized robotic civilization, complete with your own robot models and featuring robotic portraits, science robots, worker robots, and more.

AI, eh? Aye!: Follow new event chains and story features to lead your robotic hivemind to greatness as an intergalactic AI empire; establish Skynet in the skies.

Rise of the Machines: Oppressed synths may rebel against their masters and form new empires — or you may even discover a fallen synthetic civilization among the stars.

Digital Enhancements: New synthetic race portraits, and expanded voice packs for VIR.

There’s no set release date or price point yet, though it wouldn’t be far-fetched to imagine it costing somewhere around the same as the first story pack (USD 9.99).
